This was a trip I had organised for the Manchester University Hking Club. Back in January, the club gave it the go ahead and I was put in charge of arranging accommodation, transport and food for what the eight folk who went to either half of the trip. I had arranged such a trip before on new year 1998/99 but this time everything went very snoothly.

Carn Liath on
Beinn a' Ghlo

For the first time in ages, I took the minibus instead of the coach. Getting up there was sooo much faster! This time I could photograph some of the nice scenery on the way up as well as chat to folk that I knew (well kind of anyway!). We arrived at Inverness seven hours after leaving manchester and the weather was looking up today. By now the sights of Inverness town center became all too familiar as this was the third time in four weeks that I had been here.

After a stop for one hour we continued onwards to Torridon. We stopped once for photos just beyond Achnasheen in the lengthening shadows and increasing blue skies and continued on to Torridon. Everyone was admiring the views - including the minibus driver. We knew this by the way he drove the minibus on to the verge! We finally got to Torridon Youth Hostel - it was pretty quiet. Almost too quiet as it had ~80 beds and only ~15 were being used up.

Sgurr a' Mhuilinn on
the road to Achnasheen

We walked to the pub - The Ben Damph lodge and admired the views both to and from the pub. Tomorrow looked like a good day from the weather forecast - I was keen to do Liathach.

Yes the views were soooo good!
